In 1977, at the age of nineteen, I joined the Unification Church in Adelaide, Australia. Seven years later I was kidnapped by American deprogrammers hired by my devout Catholic parents. Their goal was for me to renounce my new-found faith and to also leave my American “church husband,” Bob. My book, Free Maree, is primarily a memoir about that particular ordeal.

This website is mostly about promoting my book, but I want it to be more than that. I hope it can be a site where religious principles and beliefs can be discussed in a civil, non-threating manner. I also hope to share insights, from myself and others, about family, living in a foreign country, music, writing, public-speaking, rugby, and even how to make a killer pavlova dessert (vegan or non-vegan) or an English trifle.

By the way, today, Sept. 28,  is my birthday, and this site is a birthday present from my biggest cheerleader, my husband. Thank you, dear.

When faith, family, and freedom collide.
